This module provides students with the skills of identification, measurement, accumulation, analysis, preparation, interpretation and communication of financial information that assists management in fulfilling organisational objectives. The subject provides students with knowledge of the various cost concepts and systems in manufacturing and service sectors. In addition, the coverage includes cost measurement and allocation, activity-based costing and just-in-time management, essential for an efficient management of cost. A practical approach to the use of cost management tools will be taught considering today’s highly competitive business environment where strategic pricing and business positioning are vital for business survival.

The aim of this course is to provide you with an understanding of the many social, emotional, cognitive, and perceptual influences on consumer behavior and choice so that you may a) appreciate the complexity of consumer behavior, b) understand factors that influence your product preferences and choices, c) learn how to tailor marketing strategies to meet the challenges posed by consumer behavior. Upon completion of this course you should have developed a critical awareness of factors influencing consumer satisfaction and choice, be able to apply this knowledge to marketing problems, and be able to analyse the effectiveness of marketing campaigns from a consumer's perspective, and have insight into why some products succeed and others fail to grab the attention and adoration of consumers.

The aim is to introduce students to the key areas of HRM and to build on relevant knowledge and skills developed in Year 1 modules. By the end of the year students will be familiar with a wide range of generalist HR policies and practices within the four key areas of the discipline: employee resourcing, employee reward, employee relations, and employee training and development.

This module provides students with a framework for understanding and thinking strategically about employment relations and the management of human resources in organisations. The course draws on insights from the social sciences to explore how economic, social, psychological, legal, and cultural forces influence employment relations. Topics include the design and implementation of Human Resource Management (HRM) systems in multinational companies; adjusting Human Resource (HR) systems to international variations in the external environment of the employment relationship; the development of international careers; and the integration of local employees into global organisations. The experiences of the Americans, Japanese and European corporations establishing HRM systems in industrialised, transition, and developing economies will be discussed.

The focus of this module is on providing the business students with a fundamental knowledge of management science applications and management information systems development and implementation in business. It covers the basic concepts of linear programming, network analysis, decision theory, and simulation and their applications to a range of business decisions. It looks at the basic tools and techniques for analysing, designing, implementing, and reviewing information systems as well as the management challenges of e-Business. Most of all, it aims to produce students with an understanding of mathematical and systems modelling techniques.

This subject aims to give students an understanding of the conceptual framework of business finance and to develop the skills of analysis and evaluation needed in applying the concepts to the practical situation. It also aims to help in understanding how financial management can assist management in sourcing and utilisation of funds. It contains a critical examination of the theory and practice of financial management, investment decisions and dividend policy.

This course serves as an introduction to academic research, i.e., dissertations, thesis for the academic world. It aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply the scientific method and to design research projects in their chosen discipline. Students will become familiar with a range of research tools and methodologies, gain an understanding of quantitative and qualitative approaches to important research related issues, and enhance their oral and written skills in relation to research. The assignments take students through the process of producing a research proposal which forms the basis for commencing a research programme.

Operations Management are activities that relate to creation of goods and services through the transformation of inputs into outputs. It seeks to create added-value for the organisation such that it will achieve sustainable competitive advantage by satisfying the needs of customers through the organisation’s products or services. Operations management is one of the most challenging topics in the business area. The purpose of this subject is to familiarise the students with the nature and processes of operations management and decision-making techniques used to overcome or minimise some common operating problems within organisations. In this subject, a balance of service and manufacturing applications is maintained.
